1 Day Miners Trail
Our day starts at the Dunedin Railway Station. You are then taken to Port Chalmers andwind your way round to Waitati before arriving at your first destination – Palmerston.
At Palmerston we will then stop for a quick relief stop, and from there it is a short drive to the Oceana Gold Mine at MacRaes Flat, where we disembark. The gold mine is the largest man made hole in the country and with it comes the largest machinery in the country as well. When disembarked we start our guided tour of this huge mine. We will see not only the modern form of mining but get to see what mining was like in the early 1900’s as well.
Lunch will be at the historic Stanley’s Hotel in the heart of MacRaes Township – a delightful taste of rural New Zealand. Then we embark on the bus and start our journey back to Dunedin via Middlemarch with a stop at a country hotel for a lovely afternoon tea and refreshments. You will be amazed at the stunning scenery that makes up this unique part of New Zealand.
