1 Day Wetlands Trip
We escape first to the tranquillity of this waterfowl park just 50 kms out of Dunedin to hear and observe many ducks, geese, swans and other birds that have made these wetlands their home.
55 species of birds are regularly sighted and if you are in luck, you may see any one of another 25 species that are reported only rarely. There are several kms. of well-maintained walking track which will allow you easy access to this large natural wetland and will enable you to observe a wide variety of waterfowl and other wildlife in their natural habitat. From here we carry on down to Waihola for a light meal, then head towards the coast to Taieri Mouth, a picturesque seaside-fishing village located at the Mouth of the Taieri River. The rocks at the northern end of the Taieri Beach provide a great place to explore, as is the Tairei River walkway and Taieri Island (which can be explored at low tide).
We conclude our day by driving back the 30 km’s to Dunedin alongside the sands and waves of the Pacific Ocean.
